What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine takes a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on restoring the body’s natural balance by addressing the root causes of illness and not just the symptoms. This comprehensive healing process integrates therapies such as herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, lifestyle counseling, acupuncture, and mind-body techniques.
The roots of Naturopathic medicine trace back to the 1600s, with traditional and herbal healing practices gaining recognition over time. In 1902, Dr. Benedict Lust established the first Naturopathic medical school, laying the foundation for modern naturopathic education.
Today, Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) undergo rigorous medical training at one of seven nationally accredited institutions. Their education parallels that of conventional doctors, covering core biological sciences, pharmacology, and minor surgery, with additional expertise in holistic healing methods like Botanical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hydrotherapy, and Homeopathy.
At Synergy Natural Wellness, we adhere to the principles of Naturopathic medicine, following a structured therapeutic order to effectively support your body’s innate healing abilities.
The Six Principles of Naturopathic Medicine:
First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere)
Identify and Treat the Root Cause (Tolle Causam)
Treat the Whole Person (Tolle Totum)
The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
Doctor as Teacher (Docere)
Prevention (Preventare)
